How to convert JPG to PNG
Add your JPG files
Drag them onto the box, choose them with the button, or paste an image. Add as many as you like.
Choose the photo details
By default the location is removed, while the date and camera details are kept in the PNG. You can also keep everything or remove all photo details.
Download
Save each PNG on its own, or all of them at once as a ZIP file.
Your photos stay on your device
Most online converters upload your pictures to their servers first. KeepPixels doesn't – the converter runs inside your browser, like an app on your computer. Convert one image, switch off Wi-Fi, and convert the next one: it still works, because nothing has to be sent anywhere.
What changes when JPG becomes PNG
JPG (or JPEG) is the most common photo format: it makes files small by discarding detail the eye barely notices. That works well for sharing, but every time you edit and save a JPG again, it loses a little more. PNG stores every pixel exactly, so it’s the safer format while you’re still working on an image.
JPG vs PNG at a glance
| JPG | PNG | |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Lossy | Lossless |
| Transparency | No | Yes (but converting doesn’t create it) |
| Size of a photo | Small | 3–10× larger |
| Best for | Sharing, uploading, storage | Editing, graphics, screenshots |
When converting to PNG makes sense
- You’re going to edit the image several times and don’t want each save to cost quality.
- An app, a design tool or an upload form only accepts PNG.
- You want to add text, arrows or a logo and keep those edges sharp.
When to keep JPG
- Photos you only want to share, upload or archive: JPG is far smaller at the same visible quality.
- Size limits on forms and email. For those, convert PNG back to JPG or compress the image.
Frequently asked questions
Will converting JPG to PNG make the background transparent?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same background, white or otherwise. Making a background transparent means cutting the subject out, which is a different task from changing the file format.
Does PNG improve the quality of my JPG?
No. Detail that JPG compression removed can't come back. What PNG does is stop further losses – you can edit and save the PNG as often as you like without it getting worse.
Why is the PNG so much bigger?
PNG stores every pixel without loss, while JPG throws away detail you hardly see. A photo as PNG is typically three to ten times larger. If size matters, run the PNG through the image compressor afterwards or keep the JPG.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your images are read and converted by your own browser and never sent to a server. You can check this in your browser's developer tools (Network tab) – no image data goes out.
Is the image rotated correctly?
Yes. Phones often store photos sideways and record the rotation separately. KeepPixels applies that rotation once, so the PNG is upright in every app.
What happens to the location and other EXIF data?
By default only the GPS coordinates are removed. The date, camera model and exposure settings are written into the PNG. You can also keep everything or remove all photo details.
Is it really free, with no limits?
Yes. There's no sign-up, no daily cap and no maximum number of files. The only limit is your device's memory.
