About KeepPixels
KeepPixels makes image tools that respect the fact that your photos are personal.
Why we built it
Converting a photo should be a ten-second job. Yet most online converters ask you to upload private pictures to an unknown server, wait in a queue, and then stop after a handful of files unless you pay. We thought that was the wrong trade-off, so we built the opposite: tools that run on your own device, with no uploads and no artificial limits.
How it works
Modern browsers can run fast, compiled code (WebAssembly) in the background. KeepPixels uses that to decode formats like HEIC and encode JPG and PNG directly on your computer or phone, using several processor cores at once. The page itself is plain, lightweight HTML; the converter is loaded only when you add a file.
Few tools, done properly
We’d rather have a handful of tools that work perfectly than hundreds that half work. That means correct orientation, accurate colours, sensible privacy defaults and clear error messages – in your language.
How KeepPixels is funded
KeepPixels is free and will stay free. It is designed to be funded by a small number of ads that never get between you and your download. Because the conversion runs on your device, the site costs very little to run.
Open source inside
KeepPixels builds on excellent open-source software. You’ll find the full list on our licences page.
