How to convert JFIF to JPG
Add your JFIF files
Drag them onto the box, choose them with the button or paste an image. As many as you like.
Choose photo details
By default only the location is removed; the date and camera details stay in the JPG. You can also keep everything or remove all photo details.
Download
Save each JPG on its own or all of them at once as a ZIP file.
Your images stay on your device
Most online converters upload your images to their servers first – for a file that only needs a new extension. KeepPixels does it in your browser, like a program on your computer. Nothing is sent anywhere, and once the page has loaded it even works offline.
What a JFIF file really is
A .jfif file contains exactly the same kind of data as a .jpg: a JPEG-compressed image. Only the extension is unusual, and some apps, websites and upload forms check the extension instead of the content – so they refuse a file they could actually open. KeepPixels copies the image data unchanged into a file ending in .jpg, so nothing is re-compressed and the picture stays exactly as it was.
Names for the same format
| Extension | What it is |
|---|---|
| .jpg | The usual name for a JPEG image |
| .jpeg | The same, with the full name |
| .jfif, .jfi, .jif | The same, named after the JFIF standard |
| .jpe | The same, a rare short form |
What to do next
- The JPG is too big for a form? Compress it to an exact size.
- Several images that belong together? Turn them into one PDF.
- Need a lossless copy for editing? Convert the JPG to PNG.
Frequently asked questions
What is a JFIF file?
An ordinary JPEG image. JFIF (JPEG File Interchange Format) is the standard way JPEG photos have been stored since the early 1990s; .jfif is just a less common file extension for the same thing, like .jpg, .jpeg or .jpe.
Does converting JFIF to JPG reduce the quality?
No. The image data is copied byte for byte – it isn't compressed again. Only the file extension changes, plus the photo details you choose to remove.
Can't I just rename the file?
Yes, changing .jfif to .jpg works, because it's the same format. This tool is handy when you have many files, when renaming is awkward (for example on a phone), or when you also want to remove the location.
Why do my images download as .jfif?
On Windows, a setting in the system registry sometimes makes browsers save JPEG images with the .jfif extension. Changing it means editing the registry, so for most people converting or renaming the files is simpler.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your images are read and converted by your own browser and never sent to a server. You can check this in your browser's developer tools (Network tab).
What happens to the location and other EXIF data?
By default only the GPS coordinates are removed. The date, camera model and exposure settings stay in the JPG. You can also keep everything or remove all photo details.
Is it really free and unlimited?
Yes. No account, no daily limit and no maximum number of files. The only limit is your device's memory.
