One at a time or all in a single ZIP file.
Decoded by your own browser
Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari can all read AVIF, so KeepPixels uses the decoder that is already built into your browser. Your images are never uploaded.
PNG or JPG for AVIF images?
PNG and JPG are both safe choices for AVIF files, but they suit different pictures.
| PNG | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| Transparency | Kept | Filled with white |
| Quality | Lossless | Very good (quality 90) |
| File size | Large | Small |
| Best for | Logos, graphics, screenshots, images you will edit | Photos |
When PNG is the right choice
- Logos, icons and stickers saved from websites, which usually have a transparent background.
- Images you want to edit and save several times – PNG never loses quality.
- Screenshots and graphics with text and sharp edges.
PNG file too big? Compress it – colour reduction often makes graphics much smaller. For photos, AVIF to JPG is usually the better choice.

Frequently asked questions
Is transparency kept?
Yes. PNG supports transparency, so logos, stickers and cut-out product photos keep their transparent background.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the AVIF?
AVIF compresses very efficiently and gives up some detail to do so; PNG stores every pixel without loss. Expect the PNG to be several times larger.
Does PNG improve the quality?
No. The PNG keeps exactly what the AVIF shows – it can't bring back detail the AVIF compression removed. It just won't lose any more when you edit and save it again.
What happens to HDR AVIF images?
They are converted to a standard (SDR) PNG. Bright highlights may look a little less intense than on an HDR screen.
Which browsers can convert AVIF here?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (16.4 or later).
Are my images uploaded?
No. All processing happens on your device.
